Dean can't win this election.

I have some bad news for Councilman Ueckert's campaign. He's not going to win this election. Actually, it's not as bad as it sounds. I'm not going to win either. Today is the third day of early voting, and May 9th, the big day, is just around the corner, so I think it's a great time to remind everyone what elections are really about.

This election isn't about winning or losing. Elections are about choices and consequences. If, after all the votes are counted, I'm declared the next mayor of Lewisville, Councilman Ueckert shouldn't be upset. He didn't lose anything. Rather, the citizens of Lewisville simply made a choice. They made a statement with their vote. Perhaps they weren't happy with the direction the city has been going while he's been on the city council, or they were fed up with the city's lax stance on illegal immigration, or they just wanted a mayor with vision and bold ideas.

If Dean garners more votes and is declared the next mayor, I won't feel as if I lost. If the majority of voters are happy with the direction the city is going, satisfied with our stance towards illegal immigration and our status as a sanctuary city, and place more value in his decade of city council experience (forever embodied in the tagline, "Leadership & experience make a difference."), over innovative ideas and new approaches, than Councilman Ueckert would be the mayor that they deserve.

As candidates, it's very important that we think of the election this way. If we think of it in terms of winning or losing, then we are likely to conduct our campaign in such a way that reflects the desire to win at all costs. As Matthew 16:26 says, "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul?" What we should be doing is making ourselves available to the citizens and giving specific details about what we would do if elected. We should encourage voters to vote for the candidate that best reflects their values, not try to secure any and all votes by any means necessary.

I can't speak for Councilman Ueckert's campaign, but I get the impression that it's more about winning than allowing people to make an informed choice. Here are just a few of the actions that give me that impression. Dean's campaign and his supporters were up in arms when I made the audio and transcript from our last forum available to the public. He declined an invitation from Pastor Wallace of Temple Baptist Church/Temple Christian Academy to attend an additional forum with me. His campaign speeches and website are devoid of specific ideas and solutions for Lewisville. One thing that really raises red flags for me is the way his campaign is aligned with and outsources attack articles to what I can only describe as liberal websites of hate. As a candidate, you can't control who supports you. As an elected official, when your stances on issues go against conservative values, there's no telling what kind of support you'll pick up. Personally, I would never collude with someone that supports abortion, higher taxes, and just about everything that, as a conservative, I know is wrong for this country. I would certainly denounce the endorsement of anyone that ridicules our Lewisville police officers.

I will continue to post ideas and solutions on this site, even as we approach the final days of the campaign. If you feel you don't have enough information, please email me. I want to make sure that no citizen votes for me and later has voter's remorse. This is your choice, and if you vote for Winston Edmondson, you'll know exactly what to expect: True conservative leadership with specific solutions to some of the tough problems that we face. You can read all about them before you vote. I hope that your educated and informed vote is a vote for me.
