Swine Flu: I'm not scared...I'm angry.
Posted by Winston Edmondson
I've already admitted that I'm not a good politician. Politicians are supposed to stay cool and calm at all times. You're not supposed to be able to tell when a politician gets angry. By the end of this post you'll probably be able to tell that I'm angry. You'll probably be angry, too.
My family means the world to me, and I would do anything to keep my 4 children, my gifts from God, safe from harm. It irritates me when I see actions taken, or actions not taken, by the city council that result in families moving away for better schools, and businesses, like Hobby Lobby, moving away as well. It infuriates me when those same actions endanger the lives of my children.

If you haven't yet heard of the new Swine Flu, you will soon. This new flu strain is a never before seen combination of a strain that infects only pigs, and the human flu. Humans can contract this new swine flu, and they can pass it to each other. Over 100 people in Mexico have contracted the swine flu and died. Experts fear that this could be the next big pandemic because, unlike the flu that we're accustomed to, which is usually only fatal to the extremely young or the elderly, the swine flu has been fatal to people of all ages. Cases of swine flu have now been reported in Texas and California.

So why am I angry at the Lewisville city council? I'm angry because, instead of focusing on what is right, and what is wrong, they've been too busy playing the politically correct illegal immigration game. They tried to build a day labor site for illegal aliens. They allow hordes of illegal aliens to solicit themselves. They won't allow our police officers to get the additional training and access to immigration databases that the 287(g) federal program offers. The bottom line is they haven't done enough to solve our illegal alien problem. Combating a deadly new virus is difficult enough as it is. Our illegal alien problem will make it that much harder to keep the city safe and healthy.

There are staggering amounts of children that attend school in Lewisville that have parents and/or relatives that are illegal aliens. Many of these students have lived in America their entire lives. When additional relatives cross the border, they often move in with these types of anchor families. Right here in Lewisville, we have houses with 15-20 people living in them. Cars are lined all the way up and down the streets. Some apartment complexes and extended stay hotels have the same problem. Dozens of family members live in one small apartment. Conditions like this are a dream come true for the flu virus. These are not sanitary living conditions, and disease spreads quickly in such a cramped environment. Even though the children were born in America, they live with relatives that just made it here from any number of countries. These are strangers living amongst us. We don't know who they are, where they come from, or what diseases they're carrying. If a relative brings the swine flu across the border, any kids in that house are going to bring it to school. I recently met a voter who has become a good friend of mine. Her son could not get a job at Burger King in Lewisville because he didn't speak Spanish. Teenagers that are here legally, but that live with relatives that are illegal aliens, speak Spanish, and are filling these jobs. I don't want people working in food preparation that live with these strangers.

The common response that I hear from my opponent is, "We're doing everything that we can." Really? If, God forbid, a Lewisville child contracts the swine flu, is he going to be able to look that parent in the eye and say we did everything we could do? Not even close. I posted a solution to the illegal alien solicitation problem. Why hasn't my opponent done anything about it in the last 10 years? The city council postponed a condemnation hearing until June at the last meeting. Why? Why are we putting off cleaning this city up? There are so many things we can and should be doing, but we need leaders that are courageous enough to do them. We can start to turn things around without going so far as to get sued, like Farmers Branch did. But let me ask you a question. The lawsuits in Farmers Branch cost the city a miniscule fraction of the city's budget. Do you think the residents feel that it's worth it. When they read the headlines about the swine flu outbreaks in Mexico, do you think they're proud to have Tim O'Hare, a leader with the courage to stand up to illegal immigration, as a mayor? You better believe they are.

If I'm elected as Lewisville's next mayor, I won't waste any time. The federal government has declared a public health state of emergency. At a local level, we need to be doing everything we can to protect our citizens, and that includes knowing who is here in our community. You can believe that it will be a priority for me from day one to get this city back on track. I'll do whatever it takes to keep us all safe. Early voting has already started. You can go to the Lewisville Library or the Lewisville City Hall right now to cast your vote. Please tell your friends, family, and neighbors to vote for Winston Edmondson for Lewisville Mayor.
